About the private sector and not state actors prize
The Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources and partners are pleased to announce the start of the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana (SC4Gh) Prize for Private Sector and Non State Actors (PS-NSA).
This is an inducement award for a share of the prize fund of US$ 225,000 focused for private sector and non state actors who are currently partnered or will be before March 2019 partnering with at least one of the 17 MMDAs participating in the Sanitation Challenge for Ghana (SC4Gh) contest to implement their Liquid Waste Management strategies.
Entry information
The Prize is open to all Private Sector and Non State Actors (PS-NSAs) who are (or will be) joining hands with at least one of the following 17 MMDAs participating in the second stage (Dignified City Award) of the SC4Gh contest:
To take part and win an award, the Private Sector and Non State Actors need to register online: https://sc4ghpsna.skild.com by end of November 2018.
Following registration, potential PS-NSA will be notified and are expected to support MMDAs’ implement their liquid waste management strategies that seek to achieve the following:
- Increase access to improved sanitation at home, work and in public buildings (school, health centres, markets);
- Improve excreta, faecal sludge and wastewater management (a. Pit emptying, transport, safe disposal, treatment and reuse or b. Onsite collection /containment, treatment and reuse or c. Connecting, transmitting and discharge into offsite treatment plants);
- Progressively reduce the sanitation services gap between the rich and poor.
Registered private organisations/ non state actors for the contest will be required to submit final report on their interventions by April 2019. The prize is implemented alongside the ongoing SC4GH Stage 2 initiative and will run till June 2019.
Intent
The Prize is aimed at stimulating investments, innovations and expertise from private sector and non state actors to propel the 17 SC4Gh MMDAs to achieve the value chain project interventions set out in their liquid waste management strategies and captured in their baseline data. The Prize is intended to contribute to strengthening the Government of Ghana and private /non state actor to learn and scale up gains made to city/town liquid waste management in the 17 MMDAs.
Sponsor
The technical assistance needed for the design and implementation of the prize is being sponsored by Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation through Community Water and Sanitation Agency (CWSA) and the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources (MSWR). IRC Ghana is acting as the implementation agent with technical support from IMC Worldwide and Maple Consult.
Assessment
The prize will be awarded in 2019 by an independent panel of Ghanaian judges from academia and public service with expertise in WASH service delivery, and also international judges with related expertise.
Eligibility
The private sector/ non state actor should be a company or organisation registered with the Government of Ghana; Obtain letter of Partnership from one or more of the SC4Gh 17 MMDAs; and working on a project or programme supporting at least one of the SC4Gh 17 MMDAs liquid sanitation strategies that started after 21st Sept 2016.
